Requirements to register births of Panamanians abroad.
To grant the Panamanian nationality that corresponds to your child of a Panamanian father or mother by birth that occurred abroad:
1. The original Birth Certificate must be provided, issued by the Civil Registry office or entity acting as such in the country where the birth occurred.
The certificate must be duly authenticated through the Panamanian Consulate or through an apostille agreement (through Law 6 of June 25, 1990).
Said authenticated certificate must be validated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Republic of Panama, although being authenticated by means of the apostille agreement, this procedure will not be necessary.
If the certificate is written in a language other than Spanish, it must be translated by a public interpreter authorized in the Republic of Panama and endorsed with the stamp or signature of the translator, on each of its pages.
2. Sworn statement by one of the Panamanian parents before the Notary Public of the Republic of Panama.
It may be made before the Panamanian Consulate accredited in the country of residence of the parents.
3. Certificate of Residence issued in the name of the Panamanian father or mother, which must be issued by the police of the district of the country of residence.
4. Copy of the identity card or passport of the Panamanian father or mother.
5. Said registration may be made by any of the parents or grandparents without authorization.
6. If requested by a legal representative, it must be submitted with a notarized power of attorney and an application.
7. If there are several siblings, additional photocopies must be submitted for each sibling. In order to open a file for each one.
The requirements must be submitted to the “Departamento de Hechos y Actos Jurídicos ocurridos en el exterior” of the “Dirección Nacional de Registro Civil”.
