How to obtain Panamanian citizenship.
Article 10 of the Constitution of the Republic of Panama establishes that the following may apply for Panamanian nationality by naturalization:
1. Foreigners with 5 consecutive years of residence in the territory of the Republic if, after reaching the age of majority, they declare their desire for naturalization and renounce their nationalities, they must prove that they speak Spanish and have basic knowledge of geography, Panamanian history and politics.
2. Foreigners with 3 consecutive years of residence in the territory, who have children born in Panama to a Panamanian father or mother or a spouse of Panamanian nationality.
To apply for this naturalization process, the following requirements must be met:
1. Immigration status certificate.
2. Authenticated copy of the permanent residence card.
3. Authenticated copy of the permanent residence resolution.
4. Type E Panamanian identification certification.
5. Proof of economic solvency.
6. Income statement from the DGI.
7. Authenticated copy of the passport.
8. Certificate of good health.
9. Affidavit.
10. Police record issued by Panama and country of origin.
Note: the term to apply for Panamanian citizenship will be counted from the date of granting of permanent residence.
