The Panamanian Magna Carta is the fundamental law to know how to become a Panamanian citizen. Therefore, the Constitution of the Republic of Panama provides in Article 8 that Panamanian nationality is acquired by birth, naturalization or by constitutional provision, once naturalization is managed and approved by the competent authorities you will be sworn in as a Panamanian citizen.
Panama as a Republic has had four distinct constitutions: the one of 1904, the one of 1941, the one of 1946, and the one of 1972. The latter one is the current constitution and has been modified in reformatory acts of 1978, through a constitutional act of 1983, and by legislative acts No. 1 of 1992, in 1994 and in 2004.

By birth those born in the national territory or the children of a Panamanian father or mother outside the territory of the Republic; by naturalization, foreigners with three or five consecutive years of residency in the territory of the Republic, according to the particular case of the applicant; nationals by birth of Spain or of certain Latin American countries; and by constitutional provision, those born abroad and adopted before reaching seven year old by Panamanian nationals.
One of the last steps for a foreigner who wishes to stay and live in the Republic of Panama is to become a Panamanian citizen by naturalization.
Who, upon being sworn in by the authorities of the country, can hold his ID and passport of the Republic of Panama, which will allow him to travel to more than 100 countries of the world without requiring a visa.
The first requirement that a foreigner must meet to acquire Panamanian nationality is to obtain permanent resident status.
