How to obtain a work permit as a Permanent Resident in Panama.
Executive decree number 20 of May 18, 2019, establishes a new regulation to articles 17 and 18 of the Labor Code and creates the Work Permit as a permanent resident in Panama.
These articles establish the percentages for hiring foreigners in Panama, that is, within 10 percent of ordinary Panamanian personnel and 15 percent of specialized and trusted technical personnel.
Who can apply for this permit.
Any foreigner who has permanent residence in Panama regardless of immigration category can opt for this permit.
People who cannot apply for this permit.
People who are convicted or linked to criminal activities are not entitled to this permit.
Validity.
The work permit will be granted for a term of three years, extendable, as long as the conditions are met.
Requirements.
1) Power of Attorney
2) Copy of valid passport
3) Authenticated copy of the permanent residence card
4) Certification of immigration status issued by the SNM
5) Four passport size photos
Note: Currently, the Labor Migration Department of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development issues this permit to all foreigners who have Permanent Residence regardless of immigration category.
If the foreigner completes more than ten years of residence, They can opt for an indefinite Work Permit.
