Extension Request for Change of Immigration Category in Panama
Among the immigration permits from the Republic of Panama, in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Public Security through the National Immigration Service, the following should be highlighted: the Application for Extension to Change Immigration Category.
This Request for Extension to Change Immigration Category has its legal basis in 3 articles, which we quote below.
- Article 23: Based on article 17 of the Decree Law, the foreigner who enters the national territory as a tourist may request an extension, up to a term of sixty (60) days, prior notice of the General Director of the National Immigration Service, when it is justified by your intention to request a change of migratory category as a temporary resident or permanent resident and to the expiration date of the tourist visa you need some requirement to complete your application. This must be requested by legal representative ten (10) business days, before the expiration of your stay as a tourist.
- Article 24: (Modified by Decree No. 26 of Monday, March 2, 2009) with the extension request, a simple copy of the documents will serve as evidence to support your request will be presented. If the extension is approved, the payment of two hundred and fifty balboas (B/.250.00) must be advanced for migratory services established in numeral 4 of article 28 of Decree Law, and consign a guarantee deposit for the sum of five hundred balboas (B/. 500.00) in favor of the National Immigration Service.
- Article 25: (Modified by Decree No. 26 of Monday, March 2, 2009). If the interested party submits the permit application with all the pertinent documentation in a timely manner, the guarantee deposit will be returned, otherwise it will enter the Migration Trust Fund, and the foreigner must leave the national territory within a term of five (5 ) calendar days.
