Panama: Country with Stability
Panama has maintained great political stability since 1989, with democratic elections regulated according to internationally recognized standards and the absence of serious social conflicts.
The country is rated 3 out of 7 on the Political Risk Index, according to The Global Economy. This indicator places it at the level of countries such as Uruguay, Chile or the Dominican Republic.
According to the Societe Generale report, before the international financial crisis, the Panamanian economy had the highest growth rate in Latin America. “The country weathered the international financial crisis well: the slowdown in economic activity put an end to the Panamanian government’s tendency to overspend on large infrastructure projects, which had been overheating the economy,” the report said.
Since then, the country has experienced solid growth (between 6% and 11%), driven by domestic demand.
